The BIG Chicken

A couple weeks ago, I had to drive a little ways away to a special camera repair shop to get my digital SLR fixed. On the way there, we drove by an extremely famous Atlanta landmark called The BIG Chicken. It's an enormous red chicken with a yellow beak that opens and closes, and googly eyes that swirl round and round.

I mean, everybody in Atlanta knows where The BIG Chicken is. People give directions like, "We're 1 mile north of The Big Chicken," or "Go past The Big Chicken and turn left." You don't even have to refer to the actual street names around there. People just know.

Anyway, if y'all aren't familiar with The BIG Chicken, it's prob'ly cuz you don't live 'round these here parts. I'm just sayin'.

So after my camera was fixed, we were driving home when the kids realized that it was almost lunchtime. Guess what? They start laying the groundwork: "We're hungry. What are we gonna do for lunch, Mom?"

Then, as fate would have it, The BIG Chicken came into sight on the horizon. Then they pour on the guilt: "We've NEVER BEEN to The BIG Chicken, Mom. Can we pleeeease go to The BIG Chicken for lunch?!"

Y'all. It's a KFC.

So I say to the children, "Y'all. It's a KFC. You've been to KFC before."

But they persist: "But we've NEVER BEEN to THAT one before! It's The BIG Chicken! Pleeeeease!"

So I caved. We had KFC for lunch at The BIG Chicken.

And fortunately, my camera was fixed, so we also have a picture to prove it:

Don't let it ever be said that I'm not a FUN MOM!
