Bryan had made plans to take me out for our anniversary in early July, but I got really sick that weekend. After I got better, we had a very busy month, houseguests and all. Last week he said to me, "Don't make any plans for Saturday night. I'm taking you out." Then he proceeded to tell me I would need to dress up.
I was so impressed - he had arranged for the kids to go to a friend's house for the evening (thanks Stacy & Tobe!), and did some research and got some recommendations to choose the restaurant, made dinner reservations and even ordered our dessert ahead of time.
When we were leaving our friends' house after dropping off the kids for the evening, Bryan said to me, "Tonight you're not a mom - you're my girlfriend." We had so much fun just talking and spending uninterrupted time together. It's such a rare thing for us these days.
Neither of us had ever been to Canoe. It was a great atmosphere - rustic and elegant at the same time. The restaurant overlooks the beautiful secluded segment of the Chattahoochee River. There's a private garden that you can walk through and even outdoor seating.
The service at Canoe was incredible. The hostess and the waitress knew our names, and knew we were there to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. (I know this because a couple different people actually called me Mrs. Burwick, and congratulated us on our anniversary, or wished us a happy 14th anniversary.)
We ordered a cheese sampler for an appetizer, and enjoyed an Australian Chardonnay. (The menu is 1 page long, but the wine list is 3 pages!) The menu has a lot of "game" dishes - pheasant, quail, even rabbit. Bryan tried the rabbit, and I had trout. Both were excellent. The rabbit actually tastes a bit like turkey, by the way.
Anyway, we had such a lovely time celebrating our (belated) anniversary. I'll always remember that evening!
